Sacred Heart Church, Hosur — A Journey of Faith Since 1924
Sacred Heart Church traces its roots to Mathigiri Parish, established in 1924 — the mother parish from which our community was born. In 1976, Fr. T.C. Joseph, the assistant parish priest at the time, purchased the land on which our church now stands. With the support and guidance of assistant parish priest Fr. C. Jovannes Kobu, Sacred Heart Church was formally established in 1977, planting the seeds of faith that would grow into the thriving parish community we are today.
In 1979, the parish separated from Mathigiri and became an independent parish of Hosur — a milestone that marked the beginning of Sacred Heart Church’s own journey.
A legacy of faith, built by dedicated shepherds
The first parish priest of the independent Hosur parish. Fr. Joseph lived in a rented house near the old church and built the parish priest’s residence. He established the Parish Council and lay associations, conducted street processions and was a celebrated figure in the community. During his tenure, the Chennai and Onnalvadi branch parishes were active.
A priest with great vision for growth and development. During his remarkable tenure: street processions were established, the Sakkaya Annai Novena was instituted, special feast celebrations were organized, Our Lady of Health Chapel was built, the church compound wall was constructed, St. Mary’s Nagar was established with its own small chapel, the Vediyar house was built, and the Onnalvadi church was constructed. He purchased 1.25 acres of land in Bangalore for the parish and acquired 3 more acres for educational institutions. The church bell tower that rings to this day is a lasting testament to his vision.
Fr. Francis Xavier carried out his spiritual ministry with great dedication, like a flowing river. During his tenure, the Sakkaya Annai Church in Onnalvadi was officially consecrated.
During his tenure the church foundation mosaic was laid, the St. Susaiappan Church was renovated, the church bell tower was completed, and family registration cards were distributed to parishioners for the first time.
Fr. Irudaya Nathan carried out his spiritual ministry with sincerity and dedication. During his tenure the parish priest’s residence was further expanded.
Fr. Henry George formed a stone quarry committee and purchased a stone quarry for the community’s benefit. He built the parish priest’s house in Onnalvadi. During his tenure, three new independent parishes were established from Hosur Parish — Bagalur on 10 April 1999, Sikkadu on 12 July 2000, and Onnalvadi on 30 August 2002.
One of the most transformative periods in the parish’s history. Fr. Arulraj organized the 40 Anbiams across the parish and significantly improved community welfare activities. He demolished the old church building and constructed the beautiful new church that stands tall today. He also built the current parish priest’s house, constructed the Our Lady of Health Chapel, and wrote its history. He purchased 1 acre of land in Diwaan Nagar, established the Infant Jesus Mother Teresa Chapel and community hall, and formed the Diwaan Nagar sub-parish.
Fr. Maria Joseph served the parish faithfully, continuing the growth and spiritual development of the community during his five year tenure.
Fr. Susai Manikam served as parish priest, further strengthening the parish community and its programmes during his tenure.
Fr. M. George took charge as Parish Priest in 2023. In November 2023, he completed the construction of the small chapel within the church compound, marking it with a solemn Mass and dedication ceremony. Under his leadership, Sacred Heart Church continues to grow in faith, service and community.
